Can I test the product on my own?

No. For your safety, please stop using the product immediately. Visit us at www.holmesproducts.com or call (800) 834–0056 any time for additional instructions. Eligible consumers will receive a recall kit containing a pre-paid label which will facilitate the return of a recall form and the cord (including the plug) from your HCH1823M heater. Once the appropriate contents have been received, a refund in the form of a check will be provided.

Where were these products sold?

The heaters were sold in the United States primarily at Target, but also at other retailers, such as Walmart and Fred Meyer, for about $29.99 and were sold from August 2013 to March 2014.

What product is involved?

The Holmes ceramic oscillating heater Models HCH1823M-BTU; HCH1823M-PTU; HCH1823M-RTU; HCH1823M-UTU; and HCH1823M-WTU. The heaters come in red, black, purple, blue and white.

Why are you recalling this product?

The heater may overheat, smoke, and/or catch fire due to improper wiring and/or inadequate electrical connection.

How did you become aware of this issue?

The issue came to our attention through reports of incidents

Once I have sent back in my kit with the appropriate contents, how long will it be before I will receive my refund?

Once the kit is received, it will take approximately 10 to 12 weeks to receive your check.

What needs to be returned to JCS?

The recall kit contains a pre-paid label to return the completed form and the power cord (including the plug) of your Model HCH1823M heater. You can find UPS dropoff locations by clicking here.

Only Holmes ceramic oscillating heaters that begin with HCH1823M are included. To find the model number of your heater, please look on the rating label on the bottom. Your model is not involved in the recall if the model number DOES NOT contain the characters HCH1823M.
